LED Bulbs

LED bulbs are still relatively new to the market but their usage will become a lot more common as they gradually replace Halogen bulbs. LEDs have a lot of advantages over other forms of bulb technology and our range has been carefully selected so our customers receive quality products at the low prices they expect from Sherwood Lighting. Our LED Lightbulbs also come with a 5 year guarantee, if they run out before the warranty is over we shall replace them for you free of charge.

The Benefits of LED Bulbs

LED Bulbs have many advantages for consumers and businesses. Below we highlight five of the key reasons you should consider switching over if you’ve not already done so.

Energy Efficiency

LEDs are incredibly efficient at converting the energy they consume into light. If you’ve ever tried to change an incandescent light bulb after it’s been switched on you’ll know just how hot they can get. This heat is created by the energy being used by the bulb in a very inefficient manner. LEDs use approximately 90% less power than traditional bulbs meaning that a 4w LED bulb can produce the same light output as a 50w incandescent bulb.

Lifespan and Durability

If you enjoy changing light bulbs then LEDs are not for you. An average LED bulb will last approximately 133 times longer than an equivalent incandescent bulb. They are also a lot more durable than other forms of bulb as they don’t have any fragile parts. This makes them a perfect solution for both indoor and outdoor use.

Environmental Impact

We’ve already touched on two key benefits above. LEDs require less energy to do the same job as incandescent or halogen bulbs. This means that less demand is being made on power stations and less Co2 is being created. Their durability is also a big plus. With lifespans of between 30,000 and 60,000 hours, there is a lot fewer bulbs being produced and therefore less demand on the raw materials to make them.

Even when an LED bulb does require replacing and disposing of they still hold a big advantage over incandescent, halogen and fluorescent bulbs. The aforementioned all contain toxic heavy materials which are bad for the environment. LEDs contain nothing nasty with most components being recyclable.

Compatibility with Light Fittings

One of the great things about the LEDs now being produced is that they will work with your existing light fittings. As you will see from the pictures below they all have the standard screw or Edison fittings.

Incandescent and Halogen bulbs can get very hot which means there is a risk of burning or even worse a fire risk. LED bulbs are very clever in the way they handle the energy they consume and virtually none of it is converted to heat. An LED bulb will feel virtually cool to the touch even when it’s been on for several hours.
